Reiki ~ What is it? What are the Benefits?

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

Reiki is a complementary healing modality of Japanese origin. It is a non-invasive, hands-on technique, based on the concept that an unseen Life Force, Ki, (pronounced chee) vibrates through us and is what causes us to be alive. We have a wide range of vibrational frequencies within our body's energy system. If we have low Ki, we are more vulnerable to stress and illness. If our Ki is high, we are more likely to feel healthy and joyful. Reiki is a simple process and is not dependent on beliefs or experience. The effects are similar to feelings we have when we experience love in our hearts. These feelings produce endorphins, your body's natural pain fighters. The nurturing touch of Reiki often feels like warmth or tingling, and sometimes is felt in parts of the body that aren't being touched. Some people experience colors or patterns in their "mind's eye" during a session. A Reiki session feels like a wonderful, glowing, relaxing, loving, warm radiance that flows around and through you. Reiki treats the whole person; body, mind, spirit and emotions and it works very well in conjunction with tradtitional medical treatment. Clients stay fully clothed and relax on a massage table. I lightly place my hands in a sequence of positions on and around the body. The Reiki energy flows through me and out of my hands. Reiki will flow to the areas of blocked energy and actually change the vibrational frequency of your energy. Reiki raises the vibration until the blocked energy can no longer hold on to the area it is attached to. That blocked energy is then either transmuted or released. Every person's experience is a little different, yet most people express feeling deeply relaxed and feel an overall sense of well-being. Reiki allows the body to release stress and tension while accelorating the body's own healing abilities. Reiki is highly effective for many ailments including, but not limited to: * chronic pain, * tension, * headaches, * side effects from medications and treatments such as chemotherapy. Reiki is also very beneficial when received before and after surgery. Clients often report quicker recovery, reduced blood loss, and less pain overall. Reiki cannot do harm and can even be sent via "distance healing".
